Search giant Google has released a new tool that allows programmers to perform Google searches directly from a terminal window, instead of accessing the browser.GoogleCL is available to download now, and can also be used to access Google's Blogger, Contacts, Calender, Docs, Picasa and YouTube services, right from the command prompt.
Cnet reports that the tool, which has been released for Linux, Windows and Mac, will allow users to upload video on YouTube, edit documents on Google Docs and upload image folders to Picasa, directly from the terminal.
Technology blog LifeHacker explains that after downloading the gdata Python client library and GoogleCL, users need to unzip the files to a specific location. They then need to run a series of commands in the terminal window to download the client on to their systems.
When programmers use the service for the first time, they will be prompted type in their Google username and password.
Upon doing so, they will be provided with a link that they need to paste into their browser window that will give GoogleCL access to their Google account.
